Die Ruine Pfeffingen war einst Hauptsitz des Grafen von Thierstein-Pfeffingen und thront bis heute gut sichtbar über den Hügeln von Pfeffingen und Aesch.
GeschichteIm Jahr 1212 wird erstmals eine Familie Schaffner von Pfeffingen erwähnt, welche die Burg Pfeffingen bewohnt. Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts wird die Burg umfassend neu gestaltet. Das grosse Erdbeben von Basel beschädigt die Ruine Pfeffingen stark. Im Mittelalter gibt es viele Streitigkeiten um die wiederaufgebaute Burg. Im dreissigjährigen Krieg besetzen Truppen aus Schweden elf Jahre lang die Burg. 1750 wird die Ruine endgültig aufgegeben. Lage und UmgebungDie Ruine Pfeffingen thront auf dem Grat des Blauen, oberhalb des gleichnamigen Dorfes. Sie ist vom Birseck und von der Angensteiner-Klus her gut sichtbar.Die Ruine Pfeffingen erstrahlt seit August 2017 in neuem Glanz. Gut sieben Millionen Franken kostete die Sanierung der Burganlage, die seit jeher ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel ist. Nun ist ihre Begehung wieder sicher. Durch die Erhöhung markanter Mauern hat die Ruine Pfeffingen ein neues, eindrückliches Gesicht erhalten. Breitere Wege und neue Infotafeln sowie zwei Grillplätze und Sitzbänke warten auf Besuch. Besonderes Highlight ist eine neue Aussichtsplattform, die sowohl Einblicke auf weitere, früher nicht sichtbare Mauerresten bietet, als auch den Ausblick nach Süden ins Laufental öffnet. Audio-Tour mit interessanten HörgeschichtenSeit Sommer 2020 erwartet die Besucher eine spannende Audio-Tour mit acht Hörgeschichten, auf denen die wichtigsten Stationen der Burg der letzten tausend Jahre beleuchtet werden.
