Ruine Naumburg
From the Middle Ages to the end of the 18th century, the local history of Bärenbach was closely linked to the history of neighboring Naumburg. The village and castle are mentioned in documents as early as the 12th century. The castle, located near the mouth of the Bärenbach in the Nahe, belonged to the possessions of the Raugrafen, a branch of the Wildgrafen. After changing ownership, the castle went to the Counts of Sponheim-Kreuznach in the 14th century. Naumburg subsequently became the administrative seat of an office of the same name, to which Bärenbach belonged. After the division of the front county of Sponheim between the Electoral Palatinate and Baden in 1706, the Margraves of Baden acquired Burg and Amt Naumburg, which they raised to the status of Oberamt from 1776 after territorial gains. About a third of the district of Bärenbach was a mansion. Margrave Ludwig Georg von Baden leased this Naumburg estate in 1655 to 16 Bärenbacher families, half of the residents.
