Eine Befestigung des Hügels, der gegenüber der Burg Ehrenberg lag, war aus Geldmangel nicht vor Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts möglich. Erst 1645 wurde das Fort Claudia, das den Namen der Tiroler Regentin Erzherzogin Claudia trägt, erbaut. 1703 wurde das Fort von den Bayern eingenommen, die von hier aus auch Ehrenberg besetzten. Nachdem das Fort 1782 verlassen wurde, verfiel es.
