The three-track Weidenthal Station is located on the Mannheim–Saarbrücken railway, which essentially originates from the Palatine Ludwig Railway from Ludwigshafen to Bexbach. It was opened on August 25, 1849, when the Ludwig Railway was put into operation in its entirety. Its reception building is listed as a historic monument.
When the operation of the S-Bahn RheinNeckar began in 2003, the facilities that had previously served passenger traffic were abandoned, and new ones were opened in the northern area of the station. This station is located in the area of the Rhein-Neckar Transport Association (VRN) and belongs to tariff zone 111.
The station is situated on the southeastern edge of the settlement of Weidenthal. It comprises three tracks and is 800 meters long. The former reception building and the former platforms are located at the level of Bahnhofstraße. The current transport station is located about 800 meters further north in Sensental. The main line from Mannheim to Saarbrücken runs in the area of the station from southeast to west-northwest. Approximately parallel to the tracks run the federal highway 39 and the Hochspeyerbach. Immediately north of the station is the Gipp Tunnel. The former reception building is located at track kilometer 63.4, with the stop for passenger trains at 62.6.
