Aus dem Süden kommend erreichen Sie die A72 über die A9, Autobahndreieck „Bayrisches Vogtland" oder über die A93 Dreieck "Hochfranken", jeweils in Richtung Chemnitz. Aus dem Norden kommend ebenfalls über die A9, Dreieck „Bayrisches Vogtland" Richtung Chemnitz, oder ab Leipzig in der Gegenrichtung (Hof) der A72. Aus Osten kommend führt Sie die A4 am Dreieck Chemnitz Nord zur A72 Richtung Hof.
Sie können die A72 dann an den Anschlussstellen Plauen-Ost (Ausfahrt 7) oder Treuen (Ausfahrt 8) verlassen.Von der Abfahrt Plauen-Ost biegen Sie auf die B173 Richtung Plauen ab. Nach etwa vier Kilometern biegen Sie rechts in Richtung Möschwitz ab. Dem Straßenverlauf folgend erreichen Sie nach ca. vier Kilometern die Talsperre Pöhl.Von der Abfahrt Treuen biegen Sie Richtung Elsterberg/Netzschkau ab. Den in Kürze folgenden Kreisverkehr verlassen Sie an der zweiten Ausfahrt. Nach ca. vier Kilometern biegen Sie links in Richtung Talsperre Pöhl ab. Dem Straßenverlauf weitere sechs Kilometer folgend erreichen Sie schließlich die Talsperre Pöhl.
