Die etwa 35 Kilometer südlich von Weimar gelegene Gartenanlage ist das Ergebnis einer Umgestaltung eines ursprünglich barocken Gartens durch Carl von Stein.

Um 1800 bis 1840 ließ Carl von Stein den ursprünglich barocken Garten zu einem sechs Hektar großen Landschaftspark umgestalten, das Schöne wurde mit dem Nützlichen verbunden. Unter prächtigem altem Baumbestand führen verschlungene Wege zu einer Turmruine, einer Grotte mit Begräbnisplatz, einem Badesee sowie zu einem außergewöhnlichen Blumengarten mit einem sogenannten Blumentheater und Leinwandhäuschen. Über eine Sandsteinrinne fließt Wasser durch den Park bis zu einem Brunnen vor dem Theater. Zum Park gehört heute noch immer eine Gärtnerei mit Freigelände für Sommerblumen, Obst, Gemüse und Kräuter. Der Schlosspark kann ganzjährig besucht werden.
