Nature reserve Glazowisko Bachanowo

Geological nature reserve with an area of 0.98 ha in the Suwalki region (Jeleniewo village, Suwalki district, Podlaskie), south of Lake Hancza, near Bachanowo. It lies at the confluence of Czarna Hańcza River and Kozikówka. The boulder fields are an extraordinary example of the natural post-glacial landscape. On a small area there is a cluster of about 10,000 boulders with perimeter from 0.5 to 8 m on the terraces: in the riverbed at the bottom of the valley, on the terrace about 10 m and about 25 m above the surface of Czarna Hancza river.

These are mainly boulders of granite, syenite, rouge, sandstone, limestone, basalt, ryolite and porphyry. The stones were brought by the glacier from Scandinavia.
