Discover the most famous geological outcrop of Switzerland!

Since the 19th century, fundamental knowledge about the formation of the Alps has been gained here. In particular, the discovery was made of how mountains were formed by overthrusting layers. Previously, earth scientists had assumed that mountains were formed due to the shrinkage of the earth in connection with the cooling of the earth.
