Der Kastelstein liegt auf einer Höhe von 823 Meter, ist ein markanter Buntsandsteinfelsen und ein besonderes Naturdenkmal bei Bad Ripoldsau-Schapbach. Der Fels hat eine längliche Gestalt und besteht aus mehreren horizontal gelagerten, unterschiedlich harten Gesteinsschichten. Selbst der Großherzog Friedrich von Baden mit seiner Gemahlin Großherzogin Luise ließen es sich nicht nehmen, im Sommer 1858 dieses Felsengebilde zu besuchen und zu bestaunen.
