1795 pflanzte der Botaniker, Forstwissenschaftler und königlich-preußischer Oberforstmeister der Kurmark Brandenburg Friedrich August Ludwig von Burgsdorf (1747–1802) die europäische Lärche im südlichen Teil des Tegeler Forstes, die einmal der höchste Baum Berlins werden sollte. Nach 226 Jahren (2021) ist die, nach dem Forstmeister benannte, Burgsdorf-Lärche rund 45 Meter hoch und mit einem Umfang von fast 3 Metern auch eine der dicksten Lärchen Deutschlands. Seit 1930 wächst der Baum fast ausschließlich in die Breite statt in die Höhe. In 2012 wurde der Nadelbaum, der als einziger seinen schmalen Blattschmuck im Herbst verliert, zum Baum des Jahres ernannt. Im Berliner Bestand macht die europäische Lärche nur 1 Prozent der Waldbäume aus.

In guter Nachbarschaft (etwa 2.000 Meter Abstand) mit der „Dicken Marie“, Berlins wohl ältestem Baum, geben sich hier erneut zwei Superlativen in Reinickendorf ein Stelldichein.
