A former pilgrimage church with an altar.

This used to be the site of a pilgrimage church with an altar. A clear spring - the ‘Brackeborn’ - bubbles up under the Galgenberg, which used to be a much-visited healing spring. The name ‘Bracke’ is probably derived from the name ‘Bragi’ from pre-Christian times. In 1912, a new stone setting was created by district court judge Karl von Baumbach. Hohenstaufen Emperor Frederick II is said to have visited this place on his journey to Marburg in 1236. Landgrave Henry III vowed to make a pilgrimage to Brackeborn during his illness. He died in 1483 without having fulfilled his vow, but remembered the ‘Brackeborn’ in his will.
