Der Nationalpark Tatra erstreckt sich über die Slowakei und Polen und ist seit 1993 ein Biosphärenreservat der UNESCO.
Die Tatra gehört zum Gebirgskomplex des Fatra-Tatra-Gebiets der Karpaten. Der slowakische Teil des Parks wurde bereits 1949 zum Nationalpark erklärt, während dies auf der polnischen Seite erst 1954 realisiert wurde. Dies geschah, um seltene Bestände von Pflanzen und Tieren zu schützen. Dazu gehören beispielsweise Alpenedelweiß, Latschenkiefern, Steinadler, Braunbären oder Gämse – das Symbol der Tatra. Diese sind einzigartig auf der Welt und können nur dort gefunden werden, weshalb sie besonders geschützt werden. Der Park umfasst einige spektakuläre Bergseen und Wasserfälle, sowie den höchsten Gipfel der Slowakei, den Gerlachovský štít (2655 m).

Vom 1.11. bis 15.6. geschlossen ist der Nationalpark saisonsbedingt geschlossen.
