Originale Funde aus dem römischen Legionslager Vindonissa erzählen vom Alltag der Legionäre vor 2000 Jahren und geben Einblicke in das einzige Legionslager der Schweiz.
Das Vindonissa Museum in Brugg widmet sich der Geschichte des römischen Legionslagers Vindonissa, das vor rund 2000 Jahren im heutigen Windisch bestand. Hier waren zeitweise bis zu 6000 Legionäre stationiert, die das Gebiet entlang der wichtigen Verkehrswege des Römischen Reiches sicherten.

Die Ausstellung präsentiert bedeutende archäologische Funde aus über hundert Jahren Ausgrabungen in Vindonissa. Zu den Highlights gehören seltene Lederfunde, militärische Ausrüstungsgegenstände sowie eine der grössten Sammlungen römischer Schreibtafeln. Diese Fundstücke geben Einblicke in den Alltag der Legionäre, ihre Ausrüstung und das Leben im römischen Militärlager.

Ein besonderer Blickfang ist der römische Garten beim Museum, der Pflanzen zeigt, die bereits in der Antike genutzt wurden. Rundgänge, Führungen und Veranstaltungen vertiefen die Geschichte des Legionslagers und machen die römische Vergangenheit der Region erlebbar.

Das Vindonissa Museum kann zusammen mit dem nahegelegenen Legionärspfad Vindonissa in Windisch besucht werden, der Touren zu archäologischen Fundstätten bietet.

Das Vindonissa Museum ist ganzjährig geöffnet. Dienstag bis freitag und sonntags von 13.00 bis 17.00 Uhr. 

Für Schulen und Gruppen auf Anfrage zusätzlich Dienstag bis Sonntag 10.00 – 12.00 Uhr.

Public transport

Das Vindonissa Museum ist gut mit dem öffentlichen Verkehr erschlossen. Vor allem bei grösseren Veranstaltungen ist die Anreise mit Zug und Bus empfehlenswert.

Von Zürich, Basel und Bern gibt es direkte Zugverbindungen nach Brugg.

Es verkehren mehrere Buslinien zum Museum. Die nächstgelegene Bushaltestelle heisst “Brugg AG, Eisi” und wird mit den Buslinien 368 und 374 vom Bahnhof Brugg bedient.

Vom Bahnhof Brugg erreichen Sie das Vindonissa Museum zu Fuss in ca. 7 Minuten.
