Thomas Mann Cultural Center Nida

The summer house of the German author Thomas Mann is located north of Nida in the district of Purwin. Today it houses the Lithuanian-German cultural center.

Nobel Prize Winner Thomas Mann had the house built in 1929 and lived here from 1930 to 1932. Here he wrote "Joseph and his brothers" and enjoyed the view over the Curonian Lagoon. After his emigration the painter Ernst Mollenhauer took care of the house before it was confiscated by Hermann Göring in 1939.
