The 38 metre high tower, which now houses the planetarium, was built in 1913-1914 as a water tower.
Its design with the accompanying cascade system was created by O. Menzel. However, the building did not serve as a water tower for long, as the planetarium moved in as early as 1929. The planetarium is not only known for its own popular shows, but also as a venue for concerts and the viewing platform, which offers a marvellous view over the city park and the Hanseatic city.
