Starting from the paper mill founded in 1818 in Gleisweiler, we showcase the history of paper and the traditional art of paper making. Visitors are provided with interesting information about paper production in both past and present times.
We aim to explain the medium of paper to each visitor in a very individual way.
Everyone has the opportunity to make their own paper.
First opened in June 2006, the museum is located in the newly designed vaulted cellar of the Kurpfälzische Zehnthof in Gleisweiler. The dedicated volunteer staff is happy to introduce visitors to the art of papermaking, and in the process, they learn a lot about the history of paper, as well as the associated crafts and arts. Thanks to many exhibits from the former Gleisweiler paper mill and numerous loans, it was possible to present the many facets of modern and traditional paper production in an educational and visually appealing way.
On opening days or by prior arrangement, visitors have the opportunity to create their own paper in the modern-equipped paper workshop.
