The Luther House in Schmalkalden

In diesem malerischen Fachwerkhaus wohnte Martin Luther im Februar 1537, während der bedeutendsten Tagung des Schmalkaldischen Bundes. Hier predigte er und veröffentlichte seine berühmten Schmalkaldischen Artikel, die als Glaubensbekenntnis der evangelisch-lutherischen Kirche ihren Weg in die Welt nahmen. Eine stuckierte Tafel von 1687 mit Inschrift und dem Schwan als Sinnbild des Reformators sowie dessen und Melanchthons Petschaft erinnern daran. Am Lutherhaus beginnt der nach Tambach-Dietharz führende Lutherweg (17 km), der dem Reiseweg Luthers von 1537 folgt.
