Das Lottehaus beeindruckt mit Bildnissen der Familie Buff, Gegenstände des persönlichen Bedarfs, aber auch bürgerliches Mobiliar und Hausrat des 18. Jahrhunderts. Drei Räume des Hauses sind Goethes Werk gewidmet, die neben internationalen Werther-Ausgaben des 18. bis 20. Jahrhunderts auch Druckgrafik und Gemälde mit literarischen Motiven des Romans zeigen. Neben dem Erstdruck des „Werther“ machen Nachahmungen, Streitschriften, Parodien und Übersetzungen in der Dauerausstellung die Wirkung des Romans in seiner Zeit spürbar – das bald nach Erscheinen des Romans einsetzende sprichwörtliche Wertherfieber.
