Ein Franke machte die Jeans weltberühmt – Levi Strauss wohnte 18 Jahre lang im oberfränkischen Buttenheim, bevor er nach Amerika auswanderte.

In seinem Geburtshaus befindet sich seit 2000 das Levi Strauss Museum, wo in einer Audioführung über sein Leben und die Geschichte der Jeans berichtet wird. Im Jahre 2011 wurde der Umbau des Nebengebäudes abgeschlossen. Seitdem verfügt das Museum über Sonderausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsräume, Cafeteria und Museumshop.
