Hier spürt man den Geist der Sommerfrische Ischls des späten 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, wenn man durch die beschauliche Villa an der Traun spaziert. Gleichzeitig ist sie wohl der beste Ort, um einen Einblick in die Lebenswelt Lehárs und seiner Frau Sophie zu gewinnen. Dazu ist die Villa ein Abbild der Sammelleidenschaft des Paares und zeigt eine Vielzahl an Kunst- und Einrichtungsgegenstände verschiedenster Art und Epochen, die sie zusammengetragen und arrangiert haben. Bemerkenswert dabei ist, dass alles so erhalten wurde, als hätte Franz Lehár die Villa eben erst verlassen.
2023/24 wurde das Haus grundlegend und in enger Abstimmung mit dem Bundesdenkmalamt saniert und die bestehende Sammlung an Kunst- und Einrichtungsgegenständen fachkundig restauriert.
Dabei wurde bei der Renovierung bewusst darauf verzichtet, das Haus zu musealisieren, Absperrungen anzubringen und die historischen Objekte in Vitrinen zu zeigen. Damit ergibt sich auch heute noch die einmalige Möglichkeit, in die Wohn- und Lebenswelt Franz Lehárs einzutauchen, so wie er sie bis in die 1940er Jahre in den Sommermonaten bewohnt hatte.
Ursprünglich wurde die Villa in den 1840er Jahren erbaut, als einstöckige Biedermeiervilla mit Walmdach. Als das Haus in den Besitz des Herzogs von Sabran-Pontevès überging, wurde es aufgestockt und mit einer repräsentativen neoklassizistischen Fassade versehen.
Nach der umfassenden Restaurierung öffnete dieses besondere Denkmal im Mai 2024 wieder seine Türen für interessierte Besucher*innen.
