Kilen is a large open-air museum and culture centre at the seaside in Sideby. The open-air museum, has been gradually developed here at Sideby fishing village since its beginnings at the end of the 1960s. It reflects the culture of the farming and fishing communities of South Ostrobothnia in the 18th and 19th centuries. Kilen fishing harbour and its surroundings are classified as a cultural heritage of national significance. The area sheds light on the traditional saw-mill and boatbuilding industries. Many of the vast sailing ships of the 19th century were built here, for instance for shipowners from Åland Island.
