De meeste mensen kennen kamp Westerbork door de verhalen uit de 2e wereldoorlog, maar het kamp is niet alleen tijdens de 2e wereldoorlog gebruikt.

Midden in Drenthe ligt een plek met een geschiedenis. Hier worden de levens van honderdduizend Nederlandse joden, Sinti en Roma in herinnering gehouden. Na de 2e wereldoorlog is het terrein bewoond door Molukkers. De Molukkers die hier woonden waren families waarvan de mannen in het Koninklijk Nederlands Indisch leger zaten. Nadat Indonesië onafhankelijk is geworden was het niet meer veilig voor deze mensen en daarom zijn ze naar Nederland gekomen.
