In the exhibition of the German Gliding Museum you will get to know historical as well as modern gliders on an area of around 4,000 m. It demonstrates the beginnings of gliders and their development up to the present day. The museum is located on the Wasserkuppe, the highest mountain in the Rhön and the birthplace of gliding. Numerous important events in the history of flight have taken place here:
- The world record set by Hans Gutermuth on the F.S.V. X in 1912 .
- the world's first manned rocket flight by Fritz Stamer in 1928 .
- The record-breaking flight on the Vampyr by Arthur Marten in 1922 .
- the flight of the first radio-controlled flying model BF52 in 1936 .
Opening times
- Summer season (1 April to 31 October): daily from 10:00 to 17:00 .
- Winter season (1 November to 19 December and 11 January to 31 March): weekends only: Saturday/Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
- New Year (20 December to 10 January): daily from 10:00 to 17:00 .
- The museum is closed on 24 and 31 December .

- Groups of 15 or more: 5.00 € each.
- from 16 years onwards: 5,00 €
- Group rate from 15 persons reduced: 3.00 &euros each;
