Eichendorff war beeinflusst von der romantischen Geistesbewegung, die durch Hinwendung zum Märchen, zum Mythos und zur mythisch überhöhten Geschichte des Mittelalters ausgelöst wurde und deren Zentrum zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts Heidelberg wurde.
Der romantischen Bewegung schloss sich der Student Joseph von Eichendorff an.
Heidelberg, das Neckartal und die Berge sind in vielen von Eichendorffs Gedichten in wunderschönen Passagen eingeflossen. Schautafeln, Landkarten, Modelle und Handschriften führen den Besucher in die Welt des Dichters.
Weiter werden neueste Erkenntnisse namhafter Eichendorff Forscher vorgestellt.
