Pumice is a very special rock. Its special structure and low density make it a perfect building material - for many years now. Pumice mining was decisive for the start of industrial building material production and the rapid economic rise of an entire region: the Neuwied Basin. The pumice industry also played a decisive role in the reconstruction after the Second World War.
