Am Ortseingang von Berchtesgaden steht das Haus der Berge, das Informations- und Bildungszentrum des Nationalparks Berchtesgaden. In der Dauerausstellung Vertikale Wildnis können Sie die Natur in Deutschlands einzigem Alpen-Nationalpark vom Grund des Königssees bis zum Gipfel des Watzmanns erleben. Das Umweltbildungszentrum und das Außengelände des Haus der Berge ergänzen die Dauerausstellung!
Informationszentrum des Nationalparks Berchtesgaden
Im Haus der Berge in Berchtesgaden befindet sich in einem großen Raum die Ausstellung "Vertikale Wildnis", in der die Besucher auf einer stetig ansteigenden Wanderung die heimische Natur kennen lernen:
Die gesamte Bandbreite des Lebens vom Grund des Königssees bis hin zu den Gipfeln der Berchtesgadener Alpen Die Lebensräume: Wasser, Wald, Almweiden und Fels/Karst Ton- und Lichtinszenierungen für die besonderen Stimmungen der Natur in einem jahreszeitlichen WechselHöhepunkt der Ausstellung ist die Bergvitrine, dessen Lamellen am Ende der Ausstellung den Blick auf den Watzmann freigeben, und so eine Brücke schlägt zwischen der nachgebildeten Natur der Ausstellung und dem tatsächlichen Nationalpark Berchtesgaden.
Desweiteren befinden sich ein Kino, die Gastronomie "Spiesbergers Alpenküche" sowie Sonder- und Wechselausstellungen im Informationszentrum. Der Eintritt ins Kino, die Sonder- und Wechselausstellung sowie in die Bibliothek sind kostenlos.
Das Bildungszentrum mit seinen vier modern ausgestatteten Räumen ist ideal für Gruppen und Schulklassen. In der Wiesenküche, dem Wasserlabor, der Waldwerkstatt und dem Felsenblick können die vier Hauptlebensräume des Nationalparks Berchtesgaden erforscht und vertieft werden. Für das Bildungszentrum ist eine Anmeldung erforderlich!
Das Außengelände des Haus der BergeRund um das Haus der Berge erstreckt sich das Außengelände, ein Erfahrungs- und Lernort. Nebem dem Wiesen-, Wasser- und Waldplatz steht auf dem Freigelände der Lahner-Kaser, eine historische Almhütte, die 1848 im Gebiet des Watzmann erbaut wurde und Stück für Stück zum Haus der Berge transportiert und wieder originalgetreu aufgebaut wurde.

Barrierefreiheit im Haus der BergeGetreu dem Motto des Nationalparks Berchtesgaden „Ein Nationalpark für alle", wurde bei der Planung des Haus der Berge großer Wert auf die Bedürfnisse von Menschen mit Handicap gelegt. Bei Planung und Bau des Haus der Berge des Nationalparks Berchtesgaden spielte die Barrierefreiheit ein wichtige Rolle. So wurden aktiv verschiedene Behindertenverbände vom Beauftragten des Nationalparks für die Barrierefreiheit in die Planung und Konzeptionierung des Haus der Berge eingebunden. Bei der Gestaltung des Gebäudes und der Außenfläche wurde auf eine großzügig angelegte Wege und behindertengerechte WCs geachtet, die mit entsprechenden Leitsystemen ausgestattet sind. Das Gebäude ist mit rollstuhlgerechten Rampen ausgestattet (max. 6% Steigung) und alle Türen weisen eine Durchgangsbreite von mindestens 120 cm auf. Durch einen Aufzug sind alle Ausstellungsebenen frei zugänglich.
