Expressionistische Kunst und ein ungewöhnliches Museumskonzept Das am 23. Mai 2001 eröffnete Buchheim Museum (Architekt: Günter Behnisch) umfasst ein außergewöhnlich breites und qualitativ herausragendes Spektrum expressionistischer Kunst, das die Entwicklung des deutschen Expressionismus von seinen Anfängen um 1900 bis in die 1920er Jahre dokumentiert. Im Zentrum der Sammlungen, die der Maler, Verleger, Kunstbuch- und Romanautor ("Das Boot") Lothar-Günther Buchheim im Wesentlichen in den 1950er Jahren zusammentrug, stehen Gemälde, Aquarelle, Zeichnungen, Holzschnitte, Lithografien und Radierungen der "Brücke"-Maler Kirchner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff, Pechstein, Nolde und Mueller. Doch auch Vorläufer wie Lovis Corinth und Einzelgänger - Max Beckmann, Christian Rohlfs und Oskar Kokoschka - sind mit reichen Beständen vertreten, sowie die Expressionisten der zweiten Generation, zu denen der junge Otto Dix und Max Kaus zählen.

Das Buchheim Museum ist der vielleicht schönste Rastpunkt für Radler, Spaziergänger und Wanderer am Starnberger See. Der König-Ludwig- Uferwanderweg durchquert das Museumsgelände. Vom S-Bahnhof Tutzing aus wird das Museum nach 20-minütiger Radfahrt am See entlang erreicht. Wer eine schöne halbstündige Wanderung vorzieht, fährt mit der Werdenfelsbahn der DB Regio Oberbayern in einer halben Stunde vom Münchner Hauptbahnhof nach Bernried. Von dort geht es dann zu Fuß auf dem Höhenrieder Weg an Kuhwiesen und Teichen vorbei, durch einen Wald hindurch, zum Buchheim Museum; oder durch den Ortskern von Bernried mit seinen gut erhaltenen Holzhäusern und seinem Kloster. Dort ist auch der Anleger der Bayerischen Seenschifffahrt, der über die Seepromenade bequem zu Fuß zu erreichen ist.

Von der Ortsmitte Bernried Richtung Tutzing. Kurz vor Ortsende befindet sich das Museum rechter Hand, direkt am Ufer des Starnberger Sees.

Parking

Parkplätze befinden sich oberhalb des Museums und sind ausgeschildert. Von dort führt ein schöner Weg durch den Park direkt zum Museum.
