Archaeology Museum Greding

When the München–Nürnberg ICE line was being built from 1996 to 1999, a spectacular discovery was made in the Schwarzach valley: near the Greding district of Großhöbing, archaeologists found an early medieval cemetery with about 1,000 burials.

The museum tour starts on the ground floor with the burial place of the so-called „Höbinger Fürsten“ and his four companions.

The museum tour starts on the ground floor with the tomb of the so-called „Höbinger Fürsten“ and his four companions, which is unique in Europe. It shows the detailed burial of the five warriors from around 720 AD with life-size, plastic reconstructions of the five warriors who met a violent death together. On the upper floor of the museum, further highlights are thematised: Finds from the necropolis at Höbing provide impressive information on the local burial rites of the early Middle Ages. Here, too, visitors can meet people of that time „eye‘ in eye‘“. Particularly impressive is a faithfully reconstructed model of a mill from the 8th century.
