Die Höhe des Sölkpasses beträgt 1.788 m ü. A. . Wegen seiner untergeordneten Bedeutung wird er im Winter nicht geräumt. Die Passhöhe selbst bietet nur wenig Aussicht, hingegen gibt es auf der Passstraße selbst eine Reihe von interessanten Aussichten. Die moderne Straße wurde im Jahre 1954 umfangreich zweispurig ausgebaut und asphaltiert.

Anschließende Übergänge sind der Radstädter Tauernpass und der Tauerntunnel im Westen und der Triebener Tauernpass im Osten.
