Wie auch andere Pässe, hat auch das Penserjoch einen besonderen Reiz auf die Radfahrer. An jedem 23. August eines Jahres wird das Penser-Joch-Radrennen von Astfeld im Sarntal bis auf die Passhöhe ausgetragen. Die Strecke ist 26 km lange und überwindet 1200 Höhenmeter.
Auf dem höchsten Punkt des Passes befindet sich der Gasthof Alpenrosenhof.
Die Wintersperre des Passes ist je nach Schneelage, von Mitte Dezember bis Ende März.
