The views from Grosse Scheidegg pass are breathtaking. If you've come from the Meiringen/Schwarzwaldalp side, you'll be greeted with a sweeping view of the Grindelwald basin once you arrive. The sheer walls of the Wetterhorn are immediately to the south, followed by the Schreckhorn, and the razor-sharp profile of the Eiger. To the north is a smaller ridge with the Schwarzhorn and Faulhorn.
There are many good hiking trails from here, including the balcony walk to First and Bachsee lake (a great dayhike from Grindelwald), and quieter walks such as tiny Hornseeli lake.
There is a road at Grosse Scheidegg, although it is open only to the local farmers and buses. There is a bus stop and a restaurant at the pass, but buses arriving from either side.
