Wer den linksseitigen Wanderweg, hoch über der Mulde gelegen, zwischen Penig und Amerika nutzt, kommt schon kurz nach dem Eintritt in den Laubwald an der „Weißen Spitze" vorüber. Das Denkmal erinnert an die Kämpfe um den Peniger Muldenübergang im Vorfeld der großen Völkerschlacht in Leipzig.

Die Schlacht um den Muldenübergang

Der über zwei Meter hohe Obelisk aus rotem Rochlitzer Porphyr trägt eine pyramidenförmige weiße Spitze, welche dem Denkmal zu seinem Namen verhalf. Darüber hinaus soll der gesamte Stein weiß gekalkt gewesen sein.

Das Denkmal wurde 1838 errichtet. Beim Überschreiten der Zwickauer Mulde war es im Vorfeld der Völkerschlacht im Raum Penig zu teilweise heftigen Kämpfen zwischen polnischen Truppen und österreichischen Verbündeten gekommen. Der Gedenkstein trägt eingemeißelt die Worte „Zur Erinnerung d. 6.7.8. und 9. Octbr. 1813".
