Slovenské národné múzeum – Etnografické múzeumPhoto: Aneta Štancľová
Z viacerých unikátov, ktoré sa nachádzajú v múzeu treba spomenúť napríklad pozostalosť generála M. R. Štefánika a v nej aj drevoryty svetoznámeho maliara Paula Gaugina.
O výstavbe funkcionalistickej budovy Slovenského národného múzea – Etnografického múzea rozhodla Muzeálna slovenská spoločnosť v roku 1928 podľa projektu významného architekta M. M. Harminca. Sprístupnená verejnosti bola o päť rokov neskôr.
Bohatá je jej profesijná história, keď nadviazala na matičné múzeum i Múzeum Národného domu Od roku 1942 bola ústredným archeologickým pracoviskom na Slovensku. Aktuálne je súčasťou Slovenského národného múzea v Bratislave so špecializáciou na zbierky ľudovej kultúry.
Je to impozantné miesto. K múzeu vedie široké schodisko z kresaného travertínu prekonáva niekoľko terás, jedna aj so sochou Andreja Kmeťa od F. Štefunku z roku 1968.
Súčasťou areálu je veľká botanická záhrada z roku 1934.

Public transport
Vlaková a autobusová stanica mesta Martin sa nachádzajú asi 13 minút peši od múzea (1 km). Z vlakovej a autobusovej stanice je možné použiť aj MHD, spoj č. 1 a 2, ktorým sa dostanete na zastávku Hviezdoslavova, kde vystúpite. Odtiaľ je múzeum vzdialené ešte 5 minút chôdze (400m).
