Eine Erinnerung an den Herausgeber der ersten Luther-Biografie.
Vor der St. Kunigundenkirche und der Stadtbibliothek "Alte Lateinschule" in Rochlitz steht das Denkmal von Johannes Mathesius.
Luther-Freund
Der Pfarrer und Freund Luthers lebte von 1504 bis 1565. Er schrieb Luthers Biografie und gab dessen Tischreden heraus. In seinen Schriften und Predigten popularisierte er Wissensgut zu Bergbau und Hüttenwesen.
Das Denkmal aus Bronze wurde 1904 anlässlich des 400. Geburtstages des Reformators vom Berliner Bildhauer Arthur Schulz geschaffen.
Heute liegt es dirket am anlässlich des 500. Reformationsjubiläum geschaffenen Lutherweges in Sachsen.
