Historische Straßenbrücke über die Salzach

Die Salzachbrücke zwischen der Stadt Laufen und österreichischen Stadt Oberndorf bei Salzburg wurde zwischen 1901 und 1903 während der Herrschaft von Kaiser Franz Joseph I. und Prinzregent Luitpold von Bayern erbaut. Im Umkreis von 15 km ist sie immer noch die einzige Verbindung für Kraftfahrzeuge zwischen Bayern und dem Land Salzburg.



Geschichte der Länderbrücke

Nachdem die bisherige Holzbrücke am Unteren Stadttor 1899 bei einem Hochwasser zerstört wurde, entschloss man sich, die Errichtung einer eisernen Brücke an einer hochwassersicheren Stelle vorzunehmen. So wurde 1901 der bis dahin geschlossene Stadtplatz an der Nordseite für die neue Salzachbrücke geöffnet. Die neue Brücke entstand in den Jahren 1901 bis 1903 in einer Gemeinschaftsarbeit zwischen Österreich und Bayern mit einer Gesamtlänge von 165 Metern.Die Wappen der damaligen Monarchen sind an der Trägerkonstruktion angebracht.

 

Am Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges 1945 entging die Brücke einer beabsichtigten Sprengung. Bis 1995 erfolgten einige Teilsanierungen, in den Jahren 2005 / 2006 wurde eine Generalsanierung des Bauwerks durchgeführt. Anlässlich des hundertjährigen Bestehens der Brücke gaben die Deutsche Post AG und die Österreichische Post 2003 eine gemeinsame Sonderbriefmarke heraus.
