Janus head (2003)
Prof Eberhard Linke, Bad Dürkheim
Eberhard Linke has adopted the double vision of the 70 x 78 centimetre bronze head, which stands on a stele around 1.90 metres high, from the ancient tradition. However, as Linke confessed in a self-interpretation, he does not see his work as a deity, but rather as a symbol for the diverse experiences of the people who pass by it, which is why he deliberately dispensed with exact symmetry and instead placed the polarity of the two sides (female-male, soft-hard, yesterday-tomorrow) at the centre of his contemplation. (Holger Pöschl, Die Rheinpfalz, 12 May 2003)
The sculpture at the southern entrance to the Kurpark was financed by private donors as part of the >stadtkunst< series.
