Vor dem Wöllbacher Tor speisten im 18. Jahrhundert zwei Quellen einen Trinkwasser- und einen Waschbrunnen. Goethe besuchte den Wildbacher-/Wöllbacher Brunnen häufig und hat ihn in den Wertherbriefen vom 12. Mai, 15. Mai und 6. Juni erwähnt. Heute ist der am Wahlheimer Weg gelegene Brunnen als Goethe-Brunnen bekannt.
