Der Europasteg ist eine 131,2 Meter lange länderübergreifende Brücke für Fußgänger und Radfahrer zwischen Laufen und Oberndorf (Österreich) über die Salzach. Die Staatsgrenze ist auf dem Steg markiert.
Zur Geschichte des Europastegs
Bei einem großen Hochwasser 1899 wurde die Holzbrücke über die Salzach an dieser Stelle weggerissen. In der Folge beschloss man, an einer hochwassersicheren Stelle eine stabilere Brücke zu errichten. Nachdem ein nochmals errichteter Holzsteg über die Salzach von der Laufener Unterstadt zur Altach bei einem Hochwasser 1920 zerstört wurde, blieb die Salzach hier ohne Brücke. Die Reste der Brückenpfeiler sind bei Niedrigwasser noch deutlich im Fluss zu sehen.
Die Planungen zur Neuerrichtung des Stegs an der alten Stelle zogen sich viele Jahre hin, bis schließlich Anfang 2006 die Bauarbeiten begonnen wurden. Ende des Jahres 2006 konnte der neue Steg dann bereits seiner Bestimmung übergeben werden.
