Fliegerdenkmal Jormannsdorf
Beautiful and idyllic between two large chestnut trees lies the "Aviator Memorial". It is a listed monument and was renovated from 1999 to 2001 by the association KUO. The depiction of Mary is a so-called Eisenstadt Mother of God, which is typical for the Pannonian region. The memorial column was erected in 1919 in memory of General Szmrecsányi, who was fatally injured here by the propeller of a starting airplane. General Szmrecsányi was a son-in-law of Count Batthyany.
After this event, the memorial column is colloquially referred to as the "Aviator Memorial". The inscription reads: "By God's providence, General Stephan Szmrecsányi exhaled his soul here on July 14, 1917. Pray for him an Our Father and a Hail Mary."
