The monastery dates back to the year 1193.

The structure of the monastery church in the form of a cross-shaped pillar basilica was also an expression of the Reeves’ self-confident claim to power. The building imitated Naumburg Cathedral in its size and furnishings. The Wettin lords dissolved the monastery during the course of the Reformation and the administrative office of Mildenfurth was set up. As far as the medieval building substance is concerned, the central parts of the monastery church have been preserved – along with the portal to the former western tower and the remains of the Gothic cloisters. The transept, the main chancel and the nave were extended to form a Renaissance castle. The complex is now managed by the Foundation for Thuringian Castles and Gardens and an artist couple live there. They use the complex as a workshop and gallery and regularly invite people to attend artistic and musical events.

Sie erreichen Mildenfurth von Norden aus Richtung Gera (B 92) bzw. von Westen über die A 9 (Abfahrt Lederhose, B 175) über die L 2330. Der Abzweig befindet sich dem Ortseingang Weida und Zossen.

Reisebusse nehmen bitte grundsätzlich die Zufahrt über die B 92 - Abzweig Ronneburg (Kreisverkehr) und biegen nach ca. 1 km rechts auf die L 2330 nach Wünschendorf ab.

Parking

Parkmöglichkeiten bestehen vor dem Klostergelände.

Reisebusse parken an der Wendeschleife nahe der Otto-Crinitz-Mühle (Adresse für das Navigationsgerät: Weidaer Straße 2, 07570 Wünschendorf).
