Das Kloster wurde 1126 als Benediktinerabtei durch Rupprecht von Laurenburg gestiftet. Während der Säkularisation wurde das Kloster zwischen 1802 und 1802 aufgelöst und zum Teil privatisiert. Im Jahr 1904 beszogen Dernbacher Schwestern das Kloster und nutzen es bis 1986. Seitdem wird die Anlage von der Pfarrgemeinde Sankt Florin verwendet.
