1749 begannen Franziskanermönche in Lügde mit dem Bau eines Klosters, das nach 7 Jahren Bauzeit eingeweiht werden konnte.

Im Jahr 1812 musste das Kloster bereits wieder aufgegeben und verkauft werden. Von der katholischen Kirche wurde es 1859 erworben und Ordensschwestern hielten Einzug. In den Jahren 1912 bis 1958 diente das Kloster als Krankenhaus der Stadt Lügde. Danach wurde es als Altenheim genutzt.

Nach umfangreichen Modernisierungsmaßnahmen in den 90er Jahren bietet das ehemalige Klostergebäude nun Platz für eine Kindertagesstätte und Bücherei. Der Klostersaal wird für Veranstaltungen genutzt. Der Kolpingverein Lügde gestaltet zusammen mit dem Kulturbüro OWL das Kleinkunst- und Kabarettprogramm.
