Dürnstein Abbey

Dürnstein Abbey was founded in 1410 as an Augustinian canonry, underwent magnificent Baroque renovations 300 years later under Provost Hieronymus Übelbacher and was abolished by Emperor Joseph II in 1788. Since then, it has belonged to the Augustinian canons of Herzogenburg, who have extensively renovated the entire complex in recent decades, thus preserving its atmosphere.

The exhibition "Discovering the Valuable" invites you to immerse yourself in the baroque building concept and reflect on "the good, the beautiful, the true". Themes that create a connection to the present. The tour lasts around an hour and starts in the Gothic columned hall, continues through the Baroque abbey courtyard to the exhibition area on the Danube terrace around the blue church tower, then to the banqueting hall and into the Baroque abbey church.

Guided tours in German are offered from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays at 11:00 am. Audio guides are available in five languages.
