Lead ore was mined in Korsnäs during the period 1960 – 1953, and copper and nickel were also mined in the region. Korsnäs mine played a significant role in the development of the local community, contributing both to the building of roads, and to population increase as people moved here for work. There are notice boards here today that provide information on the history of the mine, and visitors can also admire the view from the 58-metre-high mining tower through a web camera, although actually climbing the tower is not permitted. “Gruvtrollet” is open here in the summertime, as well as an exhibition on the history of the mine. Several local hiking trails start here at the mine.
