The tunnel, built between 1764 and 1767 using the Gegenort tunnel method (as in ancient times), served the water supply of the castle and the town.

Visits are only possible as part of guided tours during the period between mid May and the end of August.
For children under 15 years old, entry is not permitted for safety reasons.
