2. Thuryhammer, historische Nutzung von Wasserenergie
Fast die Hälfte des Stroms in Österreich stammt aus der Wasserkraft, davon 10 Prozent aus Kleinwasserkraftanlagen. Die Stromgewinnung erfolgt kontinuierlich und unterliegt nur geringen Schwankungen. Bei den kleinen Anlagen stehen allerdings hohe Naturschutzanforderungen relativ geringen absoluten Stromerträgen gegenüber, so dass technologische Fortschritte nur langsam erfolgen. Bei den Kleinwasseranlagen handelt es sich um eine unterschätzte erneuerbare Energiequelle.
Der 2. Thuryhammer ist eine Schauwerkstätte, betreut vom Verein PRO Freistadt.
Im 18. Jahrhundert gab es hier drei mit Wasserrädern betriebene Schmieden, insgesamt waren es in der Region rund 50 Schmieden, vor allem für die Sensenherstellung.
