A 26 m high wooden tower was erected as early as 1905 after a viewing scaffold built in 1894 collapsed. The current tower was built in 1953 about 100 meters to the east. In the early 1980s, a hikers' hostel was built on the basement of the first tower. There is a fireplace in the immediate vicinity and a children's playground about 500 meters away.
The view from the tower is spectacular: to the east, you can see the flat basin of the "Münsinger Schüssel" and the nearby Schömberg with its extensive juniper heaths. In the south-east, the valley edge of the Große Lauter, covered with forest or juniper heath, can be seen in several places. The steeply sloping edge of the Albtrauf in the north at the Rutschenfelsen rocks is more clearly visible. With very good visibility, the Alps can be seen in a wide arc - from the Karwendel to the Bernese Oberland.
