Der frisch renovierte Remelturm kann mittels gesicherter Leiter gut bestiegen werden. Bei guter Fernsicht ist die Alpenkette vom Glarnerland, der Innerschweiz, dem Berneroberland, speziell Jungfrau, Mönch, Eiger und Finsteraarhorn, bis zum Jura zu bewundern.
1830 hatte man an derselben Stelle den Signalpunkt für die schweizerische Landesvermessung etabliert. Während des Ersten Weltkrieges zwischen 1914 und 1918 wurde der Remelturm als Bewachungsposten verwendet. Die Gegend war sowohl im ersten wie im Zweiten Weltkrieg ein strategisch zentrales Gebiet, wurden doch dort jeweils vor allem anfangs des Krieges Angriffe der sich gegenüberstehenden Parteien Deutschland und Frankreich, unter Verletzung des Schweizer Territoriums, erwartet.
