The Broad Tower is part of the medieval town fortifications and the fortifications built in 1396.

Since 1396, it has secured the eastern entrance to the city, right next to the Breite Tor. 46 meters high and 130 steps up, the tower keeper once lived here - legendarily, his daughter warned the city by trumpet signal during the Thirty Years' War.
