Weißenfels ist die größte Stadt im Burgenlandkreis und gilt als Tor nach Saale-Unstrut. Sie hat ein reiches kulturelles Erbe, gepaart mit einer reizvollen Umgebung.

Das markanteste Bauwerk ist das Schloss Neu-Augustusburg. Es ist eine der größten frühbarocken Schlossanlagen Mitteldeutschlands. Ebenfalls barocke Gebäude sind das Rathaus, das Fürstenhaus und die Kavaliershäuser.

Von besonderer Bedeutung für die Geschichte der Stadt ist das Geleitshaus. Am 7. November 1632 wurde hier der Leichnam des in Lützen getöteten schwedischen Königs Gustav II. Adolf seziert und einbalsamiert. Ein Museum erinnert an den Schwedenkönig.

Das Heinrich-Schütz-Haus ist weltweit das einzige im Original erhaltene Wohnhaus von Heinrich Schütz.

Friedrich von Hardenberg, genannt Novalis, lebte in Weißenfels. Als einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Frühromantiker ging er in die Literaturgeschichte ein. Die Novalis-Gedenkstätte eröffnet einen Einblick in sein Leben und Schaffen.

Die Saalestadt hat zudem mit dem Museum im Schloss Neu-Augustusburg, dem Kulturhaus, einem Heimatnaturgarten und vielem mehr ein abwechslungsreiches Sport- und Freizeitangebot.

Public transport

Weißenfels liegt an der Bahnverbindung Eisenach – Leipzig mit Halt in Naumburg und Weißenfels. (Fahrzeit ca. 10 Min.)

Directions

Der Radwanderer fährt von Naumburg aus auf dem Saaleradweg nach Weißenfels (insgesamt  etwa 17 km).

Von Naumburg aus erreicht der Autofahrer auf der B180 / B87 nach etwa 18 km Weißenfels.
